Pancha Pandava Rathas, the standing landmark of monolithic rock-cut of the Indian architecture. One of the UNESCO world heritage site was created during the time period of Pallava ruler Narsimha Varman-I in the 7th and 8th centuries. The Five Rathas are named after the legendary Pandavas, Yudhistara, Arjuna, Bhima, Nakula & Sahadeva and their wife Draupadi. The statues of an elephant, lion and Nandi bull are displayed along with the rathas. Though these temples are named after the Pandava brothers, they are not related to Mahabharata.
Best time to visit :
Recommended – October to March (pleasant weather).
Not recommended – June and September (high temperature and heavy rainfall)
How to reach: 1.5 km from Mahabalipuram Bus Station
When to visit: 6AM TO 6PM
